Outback Trip Spare Parts List 2008 Puma 130

I am planning a 7 week remote Simpson Desert trip for the end of June and am trying to put together a list of spares to take along. Apart from the usual belts, radiator hoses, shock rubbers, tyres and tubes and wheel bearings can others suggest any other things to take.

I am told for example, there is a different system of nut to get the wheel bearings off that old type hub socket will not be adequate for. Any tips like that would be gold.

A good 600 klms will be off track over some pretty remote country in company with 4 other Defenders. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I did a similar trip a few years ago with my old 200 Tdi and took a fuel pump, water pump, a full set of suspension bushes and other spares but would like to get a Puma perspective and any tips from fellow owners.

    Thanks
    Chenz

I just got back from a 2.5 week solo Simpson trip and other than the usual stuff, I took a second spare air filter, a fuel filter and a wee pump bottle and hose for refilling the diff/ gearbox with oil in case I needed to.

Also took a roll of self-sealing tape (fuses together) instead of taking spare fuel/ radiator hoses - saves a hell of a lot of space and weight to just take one roll of amazing tape.

My swaybar bushes went while I was away....they split but remained in place thankfully. Might be worth adding to your supplies.

That's about it. Hose clamps in abundance!

The more stuff you replace before you go, the less crap you need to carry! Having said that, I lugged a spare vacuum pump across the Simpson (as it was a known Puma fault for a while there).

With 4 other Defenders you'll be able to share the spares load, as in nobody needs 2 spare tyres. Can't add anything Puma specific but some spare sensors and a nanocom?

2008 130 here also, we're heading to the Kimberley soon for our most remote trip to date. I converted my wheel bearings to the earlier type retaining/adjusting nuts last year, will be servicing them before we leave. Might be worth familiarising yourself with the wheel bearings before you go, there is a single staked nut to retain them and a spacer between the bearings as a (poor) substitute for preload adjustment. You need a small chisel or a flat screwdriver and hammer to lift the staked part of the nut before undoing it. Also need a mammoth socket and bar.
I'm planning on taking some silicone tape rather than a set of hoses which runs to around $500.00. Also a Nanocom, which currently is sitting in a post office in Cyprus- hope it arrives in time. Spare fluids, fuses, wire, HF radio.

I recently just changed the locking wheel nuts on my wheels to the regular non-locking type. The nut removal tool that LR supplied is made of fudge and this is a really simple thing that could be a disaster out in the bush, i.e. cannot get the wheel off to replace a tyre.

Appreciate most people have prob already done this and that I am slow
