    Queensland motorway tolls V defenders

For the first time in five plus year my etag didn't register and I received a bill for $12.28 as I hadn't paid my toll within three days.....they could read my front number plate so they went off the trailer I was towing.......the lady said I should
ring if I don't hear a beep umm a defender at 100km/hr with window down running MUDs.....and that I should have register the trailer with them prior to my trip....umm I didn't know that was in the terms and conditions.

Upon confirming my account she asked if I was driving my Toyota Landcruiser......er no never owned a land cruiser, she updates my vehicles and she says the defender is a class 3 vehicle and that I would needs a new etag as they need to charge me more due to the class of the vehicle....

I explained that a land rover defender is the same size as a land cruiser and that it should be classed as a standard car.......15min on hold and they allowed me to stay on class two but asked that I check my account after I next go through a toll just incase I get billed as a class 3

Interesting eh, I do recall a thread awhile back about this.....cannot remember which state it was

I was under the impression it was to do with height, I seem to recall a post by lotz-a-landies about fitting a red-dot aircon unit to a perentie would raise the roof by enough to put it into the next vehicle class, although that's for NSW.
Not familiar with your rig but from memory you run a solar panel that sits fairly high at the front of your roof rack do you not?
    Perhaps that's why.

Yes there is a thread about this...I am not going any where near e-toll to change our V8 powered defender, it is class 2 , suits us the way it is.

Yep, had that discussion with them but it sounds like you fared better than I did.
They told me that not only did the 110 wagon not belong in class 2 but reckoned that the ute is a commercial vehicle and wanted to charge extra for that too.
That was four years ago now and I have not driven on a troll road since.
Funny thing is with all the road works on the Logan troll road it is quicker and cheaper to bypass it.

Hah! Height, now there's a perfectly logical means to base vehicle tolling on. Those tall vehicles definitely do a ****load more damage to our roads and must be taxed to buggery.

My 'not so helpful post' is that in NSW if that happens and you use your e-tag to pay the toll they drop the processing fee. Might be worth a try in Qld.

Weeds, I had a simalar situation to you, our tag would rarely beep at the Stapleton toll on Logan Motorway but would always get billed as normal (number plate regognition), until one day I recieved a bill like you as I was towing a trailer (it must only read the back plate). When I was paying the overdue toll I questioned the lady about my transponder not always beeping, she assured me it was always working. She could not explain why it didn't work the day I had a trailer on though. I have since moved the transponder from the bottom of the windscreen to the top and it seems to work better there.

    Cheers, Mick.

Ahh, toll roads. Some might recall that my son received two toll fines for not paying whilst riding his bike on Sydney toll roads after he had died and whilst his rather bent bike was in the police pound in Albury.

    Hi Weeds...

I had the same issue with my 130, they were charging me a commercial rate and I had to argue to get them to change back to a private vehicle.

Funnily enough, when I asked for an additional tag for my recently registered Series 3, they did not have a listing for a Series 3, so it is down as a Defender as well!

    Crazy!
