I always thought it would have made more sense to make the sequels before the prequels while everybody is still alive and a reasonable age, so it's good to see them finally get around to it.

I would say that Disney's recent aquisition has had something to do with the push to make these films

They only bring out prequels to squeeze every last dollar out of the original idea.

All 9 Eps were written sequentially. The choice was made to make 4,5 & 6 based on what was considered "story line acceptable & financially viable".

I read all 9 stories back in the 70's when I had access to such things via a friend who worked as head of marketing for a certain cereal company that promoted it. Also saw each ep 6mths before it came out, same with Raiders and all the big stuff from back then.
