    Defender sunroofs - opinions?

    Hi all

Just about to finalise my order for an end of an era Defender and I was keen on the sun roof to help with the Perth heat (thought it may let a bit of hot air out) but have had a few people say it would be a bad idea.

Do they leak as bad as people say and is the condensation I have read about an issue in Perth?

    Appreciate any advice

    Cheers

    James

Cannot tell you about the more modern sunroofs, but the one on my ancient 110 is leaking, albeit not that badly, and the two in the Disco are tight. Might be the usual Land Rover gamble: you might get either a good or a faulty one...

There are people who spend all weekend cleaning the car.
And there are people who drive Discovery.

I don't think a Defender needs a sunroof to let the rain in.

I would not be surprised if the latest puma sun roof is essentially the same one they put in the first defender (1990's). It WILL leak eventually.

The most annoying thing is when you go to open a sun roof and find its been silicone'd shut! What a lazy arse thing to do. Just get a new seal, surely!

Seeing as puma's have no bulkhead vents, I would get a sun roof.

If you get a sun roof, after rain ALWAYS make sure you drive a bit and hit the brakes hard before opening the sun roof.

Otherwise you will end up emptying the bathtub that is the roof on your head and dash the first time you come to a stop...

    Question

Don't get one. It's not as if it's a "proper integrated item, it's just a "pop up" item.
    IMHO, you don't need it.

It will alloow more heat in than out, and at those prices you can get an aftermarket one if you change your mind later.

It would have been better to consider finding someone to make the front 3" of your window into 1/4 vent windows.

Have one in my 2010 D90. No leaks in nearly 100,000 km. It does make a significant difference when it is hot!
