Tyre pressures monitors and Defender tyre pressures

Hi Brains trust,

The factory recommended pressures for a Puma 110 are:

Unloaded: 30psi front, 48psi rear
Loaded at GVM: 30psi front 65psi rear

So 2 questions:

1) Has anyone found a tyre pressure monitor that will let you set different desired pressures on the front vs rear? Unless I am not reading the product specs correctly (quite possible), all of the ones I have found seem to assume same pressure on all four tyres.

2) When deflating for off road, assuming on sand for a "same pressure all round" vehicle I would be at of 15psi, does that mean in a 110 I need 15psi in the front with the rears at 23psi unloaded and 33psi at GVM?

Hi FWD, I happened to be looking at these units today. The only readily available brands in my area seemed to have maximum pressure settings of 45 psi, which precludes using them on my 130 with any sort of load. I know this doesn't answer you main question but might add to the discussion. Cheers, 130man.

I use the Tyredog monitor and this allows setting the pressures individually for all 4 tyres. Maximum tyre pressure is 60psi for the standard 4WD monitor but there is a truck version that goes up to 180psi if you really need it.
The other advantage of the Tyredog is that it handles the lower pressures when you let your tyres down. Some of the cheepies won't allow you to set a low pressure warning under 20psi. I've been very happy with mine.

I use the Sensa Tyre system.. which I bought from Landy Bitz (run by Juddy on the forum) Safety

From memory you can set every tyre separately, you can also set a very low pressure when using it for offroad. I bought the 6-14 tyre pack so both my spares are covered and if I want I can purchase extra sensors for any trailers I might want to use it on.. (handy for cavanners and truckies)..

I just LOVE the system and honestly think it's one of my best purchases, it allows me to see the pressure and the temp of the tyres and for the piece of mind it gives me its worth every cent.

If you are looking at getting a system can I suggest getting one that has the sensors inside the tyre itself (attached to the rim) as I've heard of the ones that fit onto the valve being damaged when off road.

Hello, can anyone tell me please are these systems for tubeless installs, i.e. internal. My 101 has tooobs so Id need units that fit on the valve stems.

Tyredogg runs off the valves, we ran these on all vehicles on our recent canning trip, saved a few tyres but letting us know early when we had slight punctures.

OK I'll check that out too and yes the temps and related pressure change may be interesting, Not so much in the UK but in the south of Europe and in the colder places like Norway too.

Tyres as so damned expensive that any gadget to prolong and protect their existence has to be worth a look.
