High Beam power for LED Bar

    Gents (and or Ladies)

I am trying to wire in a LED light bar on my D3 but for the life of me I cannot find somewhere in the high beam circuit to draw my power from.

There is that much stuffed in under my bonnet with all the other accessories already fitted that I have no idea where to even start looking. The harness/relay kit I have been provided just needs a power supply to draw from as everything else is pre-wired, including the on/off switch, so I just need a feed out of the High Beam relay if someone can let me know where it is exactly in the D3...

    Thanks

    Mark

Back of the Headlight. In the plug itself.
    From memory Blue/Black R/H or Blue/Slate L/H headlight.
This is where i picked up my high beam switch wire from & many other customers.

    Cheers

Thanks Sniegy, was a bit perplexed with the wiring around the HID Ballasts, but your advice solved the problem... I am now all hooked and ready to BBQ wildlife at 100 paces with my 288W LED Bar!!

hi Mark, so if I understood correctly there is also a switch for the light bar that goes on the dash somewhere? so that it only comes on with full beam if the switch is on as well? where did you put the switch?
    thanks

You will need a relay. 12v from high beam cct to trigger relay and 12v from battery positive terminal which is what you are switching to the led bar.

You can put a switch in series with the high beam to the relay. High be works normally then but keeps the led bar off.

The wiring harness that came with the LED Bar had one relay pre-wired into it, and also had the switch pre-wired into it as well. This setup allowed only for the the LED bar to be switched individually not with the High Beam. This is why I was chasing the switch wire from the high beam.

As PeterOz said it needed another relay installed to allow switching with the High Beam.

Thanks, may I ask which brand it was? I presume they don't all come with a wiring harness

Correct... Mine was a 240W Bar from KORR Lighting. I wouldn't recommend them though.

First they sent me a 120W bar with a harness, not the 240W I ordered, then they said (despite me confirming that it was a complete kit and nothing else was required at the time of purchase) I wasn't supposed to receive the wiring harness with it but that I could keep it because of their error in sending the wrong bar.

Then when they sent right bar they sent the wrong mounts for it.

All up from time of order to actually being able to complete the install was 3 months...

That's surprising. We've bought some Korr lights and been very happy with them.

Sent from my D1 using overweight hamsters.

I am happy with the light bar... just not the service provided by the company. They just seemed to have no idea what they were doing!!
