I've got two - I found the DS one assists to lower engine bay temps (and minimise OCD issues).

A sufficiently negligent mechanic can break them, but other than that they're pretty tuff.

I have a plastic one (you can get ex military metal ones). I put mine on after I found the air intake drain hole blocked with silt and other gunk. I fitted mine over the top of the existing grill using the original screws. Bought mine from the UK via Ebay (http://www.ebay.com.au/sch/i.html?_s...ndrover&_rdc=1). There are left and right hand versions and you you need to be aware if you have checker plate. No noticeable impact on heating or cooling.

I have a pair on my Defender. Where I live there are a lot of trees/bushes that drop this really fine leaf stuff! This stuff cost me a heater motor as it blocked the drain tube and filled the vent ducting with water. My fault I know but annoying none the less. I fitted the cowels and I have noticed that I no longer mist up on rainy Brisbane days and the vent ducting remains water free. I added both sides just to even up both sides but you only need the LH vent really. They are ABS Plastic and would crack if stood on. (I stand on my bonnet to load the rack) would be better made of metal.

    Cheers,

    Nino.
