    Vehicle Insurance

    Hi all,

Was wondering who people go with for their LR vehicle insurance?

Any recommendations would be good ...
Has anyone heard about GAP cover for their novated lease? Do any know who can provide this cover?

    Thanks

I use a broker - Affinity they offer 4wd cover with new for old first 3 years, they cover the gap between payout and claim, off road anywhere, camping gear and a bunch of other stuff. Walter Poon is a good guy there, been with them for 9 years they get the best deal each year. Still bloody expensive $2k+ each year and that's no points, no claims just "living in Sydney metro - your post code " and "it's a Land Rover"!

We use a broker also. I have costed the insurance independantly, and yes it was cheaper, but only by the broking fee. Where it gets interesting, is adding in all of the accessories and extras. We found dealing with a broker we could be satisfied all the extras were covered, whereas trying to deal direct, there were numerous 'grey' areas of coverage, and queries over what was std and what wasn,t. The 'E diff' was a good example.

However, I was surprised at how accurate most of the insurance companies have the equipment listed for the different models.

Having used brokers previously, i also find they are worth the extra when it comes time to make a claim. Nothing more frustrating than dealing with an 18 year old clerk over your pride and joy.

I was already with NRMA Insurance before I bought the D4 last November and basically swapped the old car (Pajero) insurance over to the new D4. At the time the lady I spoke to advised me to go Market Value and change over to Agreed Value after two years as NRMA will replace the vehicle for a new one if it's written off within the first two years. I was amazed at the small increase in premium from an old 13 year old Pajero worth $5000 as a trade compared to a replacement cost of a new D4. Premium only went up by about $400 or thereabouts. Couldn't believe it but the lady said I was a valued long term customer and have most of my insurance with them so they reward the loyalty.

That said, it pays to shop around and always ask your existing insurer every year at renewal about getting a cheaper price. They like to keep customers rather than lose them. We do the same with bank interest, ring up every three months and ask for a better rate. Nine times out of ten we get an extra 0.5% or better. The bank usually puts you on their honeymoon rate to keep you.

Most of my cars are with NRMA and they have been good they have a policy in Qld not sure about other states but they beat any quote by 10% so I went with them. But I used to be with Suncorp prior to NRMA but when dealing with life insurance they insulted my partner about her bmi and was just plain rude so I swiped them for a while. But with NRMA my HSE D4 is $1100 a year with an excess of $800 I think, with windscreen and hire car options.

GAP insurance? I would insure the vehicle with an insurer that replaces the car with a new one if written off, and save yourself some money.

We have our MY14 Discovery insured through QBE, annual premium is $795, $600 excess. The policy also provides new vehicle replacement for the first 4 years, with unlimited windscreen & glass replacement with no excess.

All the options on the car including the surround cameras, E diff etc are included as well.

We didn't take out the gap cover due to 4 yr new for old replacement, although it was offered by the Novated lease Co. We also sourced our own insurance cover as it was significantly cheaper than what the lease Co could offer.

Not bad value in my opinion.

Who's your lease with? I was looking at orix and there insurance was really expensive I got a quote about $400 cheaper than there's. But a friend who's with lease plan said that they couldn't get a cheaper quote than lease plans insurance, though not sure who lease plan use. In the end I had to cancel coz they messed me around with cars and the dealer was telling lies so I gave up with leasing haha.

Hi Guys, I have done a few additions to my Disco 3 like the roof rack, awning, onboard compressor, rock sliders and bash plate. Do I have to inform my insurance about all this so it will be covered as part of the insurance.

It's probably better to let them know rather than have an argument later. I always tell them about non original equipment and that way you're covered unless they specifically refuse to cover the item in the first place which is very unlikely.
