VNT turbo options

First of all im sorry if this has been covered a hundred times but im using my phone and the search funtion doesn't work properly it just sends me to google..

First of all been doing a.lot of reading this last couple of days and not just on td5s all makes anything with a vnt setup basically... and now I have a few questions haha.

Ive got a few ideas with sourcing a vnt something similar to a patrol or European a merc or bmw TD6 havent worked out specifics yet still plenty more reading to be had. Im not overly keen on paying the close to 2k for what is essentially a $500-$700 turbo from the big names and I understand your paying for there r&d.. but there are issues what I see with the kits being pressure opperated that im not overly keen on as this tends to were out the vein mech fairly quickly from what I've read. (Not just on land rovers )

so just wondering if anyone is running a vnt setup with a dawes and needle valve setup on a defender. What I was planning on doing is taking vacuum from the now deleted EGR And using it to keep the vnt controlled by vacuum seems to be easy enough...

and second has any one done this already and found aturbo that bolts onto the manifold from something else so I can save some time haha seen a couple but need to take messurements and might pay a visit to the turbo guys we use at work.

any help on this would be great and sorry again if its been covered a million times.

Yes it has been covered a few times, not everything is designed for mobile phone access. It sound like you are asking about a TD5, you should confirm that.

What makes you say that there are wear issues with the pressure controlled systems? There have been some wear to the linkages don't know about veins .

Yeah its to suit a TD5 from what I can understand with the pressure operated setups they have a tendency to wear out the linkage bush im guessing this because they are under more force than the vacuum actuator. From what ive read this is fairly common and if not picked up early enough it wears the housing meaning turbine housing needs to be replaced this is common with bmw audi mazdas and mercs so seems to happen enough that I dont want to go there if I can..

the turbos im leaning towards are the vgt gt2256v fitted to 2.8 ranger or bmw x5 or even the gt2252v fitted to a range rover 2.9 dont know what car tho haha from what I can see these all have the same turbine inlet flange so should bolt straight to the td5 manifold

Obviously these are not a straight bolt on as dump pipe is different and oil feed and drain will most prob be different but these are just small hurdles.

any thoughts would be good

Just been looking at the rover 2.9 turbo and have an odd question hoping someone can answer does anyone know if the td5 exhaust manifold can be bolted up back to front / upside down? This would be the only problem running the this turbo as it look like the exhaust Is on the r/h side so flange is back to front if you know what I mean..

Just had a quick look and looks like it will but with out actually removing it and trying its hard to tell.

And never mind bout bolting manifold back to front looks like all bolt will allow it but being offset will cause the turbo to foul the oil cooler/ filter so that's out. looking like an addaptor plate might be the go will go speak to turbo shop and see what I come up with.
