Def Wheel Stud snapped - is a new Hub required?

    Hi,

    Have a snapped wheel stud on a 1999 110 TD5 Defender.

Have rung to get new stud only to be told that you have to buy the hub. Studs not listed.

Is this correct or do you know different.

Typically this has happened when I am going away!!!

Surely you must be able to buy the studs because We put Land Rover studs on our Alko hubs for the camper.
Our Land Rover does not leak oil! it just marks its territory.......

They are pretty easy to change if you have a vice. I did it just recently.

I have some spares from a 300tdi hub if interested. I don't know if they fit. Alternatively Rover spares in Sydney sell new wheel studs.

Now there is a strong boy then or a big rattle gun. I have never seen one snapped, although I am sure it has happened.

I have had one snap.......the defender had 180k on the clock when I brought it and one snapped around 330k. in the 180k that I have owned it I don't believe a rattle gun has touched it and my wife at 70kg can undo the nuts.

whilst I have no idea what happened in the first 180k, maybe it was mistreated but it could also just be metal fatigue

Aye, a big rattle gun at tyre fitters. Was not happy but to late.

Has cause metal fatigue. The stud only showed signs of half snapping. The other half already discoloured.

I always torque wheels. I use a rattle gun to 'spin' the nut up. No tightening by the gun.
