    fuel pump query

    Hi everyone

well dad and i just cranked over the old girl and she fired with a mouth full of fuel straight into the carby, we now have a fuel pump issue.

the fuel pump is getting fuel from the tank to the bowl but it stops there and isn't making its way to the carby.

any ideas what could be going wrong? i have added new fittings to the pump so not sure if that is the problem????

cheers for your time and help

check the needle and seat. remove the fuel line at the carby and prim the pump by hand and see if fuel is getting up to the carby. Remember fuel is flammable !

this is rather embarrassing but we found the issues to why the fuel wasn't making it to the carby

we had blockage in the inlet pipe at the carby. So late last night i cleaned the blockage and this morning we had her running in minutes.

    cheers for the help

Thank you for admitting it! This is the sort of response that will be helpful to others in the future. We all make mistakes - like the time I had pumped about a gallon of oil into the engine before realising I was standing in a pool of fresh oil spreading round my feet - and spotted the sump plug sitting on the ledge in front of the radiator!

No; it is the sort of thing everyone does, no matter how much experience you have.

My latest blunder after draining the engine oil on my Alpine, was to then drive away and crush the drain tin full of oil

At least I remembered to put the fresh oil in first, although I have done what John did as well!

    Cheers Charlie
