    Penrite Enviro+ oils

    Gday All,

Noticed this range of oils yesterday, seem to have the right specs, anyone tried it.

Have been running Enviro+ 5w/30 for about 60,000km @ 10K intervals. Engine runs nicely on it, very smooth, no issues at all. Real fuel economy since I've had the car has dropped from 10.5L/100km to 9.3L/100km.

Only changing to Castrol Edge Titanium 5w/30 A3/B4 now as it seems to fit the spec slightly better, I can get a better deal on it and there doesn't seem to be any point running a low SAPS oil when no DPF present, although it may possibly work better for the EGR setup.

    Hi Ean,

Can't speak for the Perentie but I'm using 10W40 in my TD5, as recommended here by Rick for the TDi and TD5.

Oils - can we set up a definitive list

It exceeds all the older standards and a comparison of the heavy duty diesel E9 standard it meets with the older ones can be seen here:

This is more what I was thinking, I clean my inlet pipework every 2nd oil change, so every 20,000ks so may give the enviro+ range a go and see if there is any noticeable difference.

Although not directly relevant as mine is petrol, I've used Penrite HPR5 in mine for years and am happy with it. Goes in clean, comes out looking much as it did when it went in. Engine seems happy, all good.

Haha, this is my experience with Penrite too UNTIL I got a diesel... Goes in clean, comes out blacker than the ace of spades, so black that anything that comes in contact with it also becomes black - stains your skin for at least a week!!

Apparently this is all very routine.

As my daughter would say ... YUK !

I have seen the black sludge that comes out of my FIL's Hilux ... that is some seriously foul stuff (he uses castor but I think the theory is much the same).

I have only ever fuelled up a diesel vehicle once in my entire life (and I have never personally owned one) ... I couldn't believe what got on my hands ... my wife told me I was a wuss and then muttered under her breath that's why she keeps a packet of disposable gloves under the seat of her work Merc ... eeww !

Far worse on EGR vehicles, after I removed the EGR on my D2, the oil would stay clean for most of its life in the engine, it would be the last few thousand Kms that it changed colour. On every EGR diesel I have had the oil is black from the time you pour it in and start the engine.

I've only ever had indirect injection N/A diesels before my D3. So in comparison the TDV6 oil stays bloody clean
