Gday All,
I had the question put to me about a TDV6 Turbo not coming on till 2200RPM, and you being able to hold the pedal flat and the turbo not boosting till the car finally gets to about the 2200 revs. After 2200 the car performs as it should.
What controls the turbo on the D3 TDV6.? or What would cause the turbo to take so long to boost ?. I haven't heard of the D3 suffering the collapsed hoses like the D2 did. I am wondering if a EGR fault could cause this.
My car doesn't seem to have any turbo lag, but to be honest I have never tried to take off in a hurry so its something I may have to try.
Cheers Ean

SupporterWell I must have a problem with mine..and Im well used to how diesel turbo's can take some tim ego spool up, my wives car is a classic.
With mine some times the delay seems like ages...other times like you say Andrew it just goes. For example, every day I use the same T intersection, when turning right onto the continuing road my car will literally dawdle across the intersection until it reaches half way, then it gets going.
It also seems to have issues deciding what gear to be in when going around corners, this issue however can be negated if using the paddles & selecting what I think is the correct gear.
But its the lag which is so off putting, as I say some times its awesome, but others its awful...dealer says its fine...so buggered if I know, but after Xmas I will be asking the dealer to have a demo vehicle for a day or so & see if its my imagination or not.

I think it's commonly referred to as the pregnant pause. Use the bottom left search bar to search under that term and you will get some good info. This link should help as a start.

Mine (MY13 D4) hesitates and the service guy said it's fairly normal as the turbo needs to "spool up". I've noticed that it's worse from a complete standstill with foot brake applied compared to when I have the EPB on. Much better with a rolling start so to speak. I've had to adjust to allow extra room cutting across or breaking into traffic.
Slightly off topic, but when do the turbos actually start to work? The current models have twin sequential turbos and I presume one cuts in before the other is needed. Just curious.
As mentioned before the pregnant pause is not the turbo but the Auto, plenty of info on the subject on this forum. The combination of software updates for the gearbox and remapping of the engine tune helps to overcome this to some extent.
