Under what conditions does a D4 self lock?

I know about the drive away locking and that if you unlock the D4 but don't open a door it will self lock in about 30 seconds. Also if you only open the tailgate the vehicle re locks it on closing. I don't have keyless entry.

Have I missed anything and is it possible for the D4 to lock with the fob inside?

My wife's Qashqai emits a high pitch beeping if you leave the fob in the car and close the door. But it has keyless entry, mood lighting and a1-speed transmission It's also a very nice drive and made in UK.

I was going to reply to your question by saying that the most likely time for a D4 to auto-lock would be when you have left your keys inside.

I've met that bloke Murphy too many times ...............

Don't know if that's true or not - after having twice had my keys locked inside Prado's, I'm paranoid about and NEVER leave my keys inside the D4. At least with the Prado, it was easy to break in and retrieve the keys both times (once was through a front door, and once the tailgate). I would not like to be in a position of having to get into a D4 to retrieve keys.

Other than the auto-locking arrangements that you've mentioned, I can't think of any others when the car would lock itself (mine is older than yours, but also does not have keyless entry.

I would imagine though that if you unlocked the tailgate only, and then placed your keys in the back of the vehicle with the shopping before closing the tailgate - you'd be cursing yourself.
    Cheers .........

When mine was delivered they warned me the only way to lock your keys in is via the rear tailgate as Brian mentioned.

Mine won't auto re lock if the vehicle is unlocked, and then just the rear tailgate is opened and then shut.
Wouldn't want it to do it either.

Mine does it only if any of the doors or rear tailgate is not opened, and that is enough of a PITA for me.

In fact is there a way to disable the re locking function?
The dealer doesn't seem to think so.

If it isn't an ADR then you would think it could be disabled.

    Try the tailgate

They specificaly warned me if I only opened that door, put some shopping in and left my keys in they will be locked in.
As you say the auto re-lock doesnt work on the other doors after opening one.

    Thanks Derek.....I love this thread

I'm obviously not the only one, getting a little paranoid about looking like a total tool

Best I test out the tailgate tomorrow.....

It is for this reason, I dont use the tailgate release button on the fob.

If I have to put something in there, I push the unlock button, and then lock it again after I have closed the back door.

That way, I can't lock the fob in the car, and it is only 1 more push of a button as I am walking away.

So I'm not the only one who is a little paranoid

My D1, D2 and Puma you couldn't lock the keys in. I suspect the D4 issue is only the tail gate unlock. I'm pretty sure that the vehicle won't relock once a door is opened. Guess there's one way to find out...I suppose that's why 2 fobs are supplied

The CCF setting can be changed with a Faultmate.

I intended changing the setting until ours with my wife inside was "unlocked" (it was already unlocked) when a person unlocked their Asian vehicle that was parked next to ours. If ours hadn't already been unlocked then it would have re-locked itself.
