Wheel alignment - tight tolerance

So I know have a Hawkeye and can activate to tight tolerance mode.

So can I just drive up to any tyre place activate it and them let them at it for a wheel alignment, or is is still more complex than that?

Also once in tight tolerance what happens if they try and lock it to access height.

In theory yes you can. I'd screen wheel aligners by phone to make sure they have a clue (ie. tell them you have a D3 and see what they say - if they don't know about TTM don't use them). TTM just means the vehicle will tolerate less variation between corner heights than usual - I've never selected access mode in TTM but if it did it, it would just mean it is more accurately at that height. If you are concerned that a wheel aligner would do that, I would not be using that aligner as it needs to be aligned at driving height. Also, suggest that you drive a little after selecting TTM to ensure it adjusts properly before the alignment.

Personally, I would stick the VIN into topix, Print off the wheel alignment specs & keep them in the glove box.
Ring where you want to go & question if they have done a D3/D4 before.
If you have Hawkeye & can set the vehicle into TTM then the hard part is done.
If you can supply specs to someone you think has a clue about alignments then most of the troubles are solved already
Once finished remove from TTM & off you go.

It's also worth checking that the airbags don't sag at all as that will upset the alignment.

I just got mine done in Perth. Rang and had a chat. They said they've "done heaps" so I booked it in and got it done. When I picked it up the manager said "we've got the guy that used to do them for Barbagallo so he knows all about it". Commented that is was a fair bit out but good now and that the suspension is locked (but don't worry it'll just unlock when you start driving) as they need to do that so it doesn't move.

Got in and noticed it was selected at normal height and it drives OK but, his locked comment has me thinking, at what height did they lock it? I'm suspecting it has to be access height? Or will it unlock from TTM if they used that?

I've just picked mine up from a wheel alignment, done the the Jax shop used by the local indie in Canberra.

I set it to TTM with my Nanocom, they did the four wheel alignment, said everything was very good underneath after my new control arm installation so happy with that.

Set it back to standard, and went to reset the steering wheel angle but no, It failed the reset.

Checked the errors and was unable to read or clear errors from any of the computers.

So, I now have errors which can't be read or cleared, but the car performs perfectly!

I will do a hard reset tomorrow and see what happens, but what could the wheel aligner have done to cause this issue?

When I equired at the local (Canberra) LR place they mentioned they put it in TTM and then took it to the place for wheel alignment. Also when I got my service and alignment from MR automotive in Brisbane they did the same thing I believe.

If limited to 8km it would have been a very slow drive.

No it does not cancel. I was recommended not to go too quick but still maintains 60 fine.

Dash shows customer settings or something like that.

On a D3 TTM is indicated by the suspension warning light turning red and staying red until TTM is not active. TTM needs to be engaged and disengaged by a diagnostic tool. I've driven mine at 50km/h when engaged. I'm not sure what happens with a D4 or if TTM acts differently.
