    faulty fuel gauge

Sorry if this has already been covered, my fuel gauge read full but it is not.
I have about a 1/4 tank of fuel I puled the sender unit up but not out as i could not figure out how to get it out. as it came up it read empty so i played with the float but even lifting it up a tiny bit it read full again. any help would be appreciated.

It would help if we knew which model Landrover you have. Guessing that it is a Series 3, the most likely problem is faulty earthing on the voltage stabiliser, located on the back of the speedo. If it is a Perentie, the most likely problem is that the gauge is not properly earthed.

    Hope this helps,

That strongly suggests that your problem is the earth to the instruments (does switching the instrument lights on and off change the reading? Remembering to allow for the slow response of the gauge). I predict your engine temperature gauge is misbehaving as well.

In my similar vintage civilian 110 the problem was that all the earth leads for the gauges end in tags stacked under one of the nuts securing the speedo, with another tag on a wire to earth. This nut was loose, and the fix was to tighten it, clamping the tags together again.

    Hope this helps,

Sounds like the same issue I had with mine.
The sender unit had stopped working and only registered 1/4 tank or full.
The sender is available from LR but make sure you are sitting down when they tell you the price.
I am thinking about having the old one rebuilt.

It is an ADF specific part AYG9825 (VDO I think) and it is not available in the UK.
If you find one for a reasonable price please let me know and we can share freight.
