    Puma power..

First big trip towing with the new Defender. Ravenshoe to Townsville a very relaxing drive with the caravan on. For a while I was irritated with a back backer who drove at 85 ish and at the overtaking lanes speeded up to 105, very annoying!!
In the end I decided to have a go with my 16 foot van on this guy was driving me nuts. As I speeded up to overtake he did too . I put my foot down still in top gear and we hit 125km/h and passed they then slowed down, he was just messing about trying to annoy. The Defender was amazing it never felt like it was running out of steam, even with the van it went like a train. 125m/h was annoying he pushed me to it with a van on, but the Defender could do it, the best car I have ever owned!!

Those sorts of drivers give me the ****s,....can't understand why they do it.
Same sort of drivers sit in front of B Doubles etc at around 90kph in 100 zones, & don't move over, even though they've got a MASSIVE truck radiator filling their rear view mirror?

I kid you not Chris, with a B.A.S.2 remap you would have blown him to the weeds with ease.

Yes they make you mad but 125 with a van behind? I think you should control yourself a bit better and not put you and the family and possibly others in danger at those speeds.
All OK without the van though.
I would just drop back and let him have his fun and games.

Nobody was in any dander, not in a long over taking lane, I would not have done it if I did not feel safe. In Europe I have seen caravans going a LOT faster than that and drivng at that speed all the time. As soon as I passed I backed off back to the speed limit anyway.

    Settle down

I've been quicker than that safely with the van behind on dirt.. (Ask Sitec or Alien)...

And certainly quicker than that when overtaking on Bitumen..

As long as your rig is set up right its not an issue...

    "Those speeds" pfffttt...

A lot of people don't yet realize how well the TDCis go well above 100kmh. I suppose it's people used to Defenders barely capable of reaching 100kmh and if tuned to get there - it's white knuckles and fear time!

There is a reason TDCis have speed limiters on them! They hit the limiter speeds (148kmh/90mph in the 2.2) very easily. And at 110kmh on the highway you have to be alert not to drift well over posted speed limits - it is so comfortable and effortless at those speeds.

I came across a couple of these on the way home from Maryborough a few days back. Although, I wasn't towing anything so the little 90 blew past all of them! I however was running 32x11.5R15's ATs, so it started to feel a little squirmy up over the 130 mark....

I have to admit that I didn't expect my Defender to handle to handle very well, with it's two live axles high ground clearance and so on. Traveling up to Frazer I drove it accordingly. However, I took it up to Newnes Plateau on Tuesday to give the B.A.S.2 Re-Map, and I was determined to give it a bit of stick. OK, it doesn't handle like a WRX or the like but it isn't bad either. I stuck to the speed limits mostly, except for when the road got hilly and windy. It didn't let me down at all even though a few times I put too much power down on some tight bends and lost traction on the inside tires. No problem. When I was coming back off the Plateau I picked a couple of smoothish bends and deliberately put it into a slide. one left and one right. I found it to be quite controllable. So, I don't think I would have too much fear now to tow a well set up trailer at 125 or even a fair bit quicker. if I had to.
    Cheers Billy.
