Is the tranny the same in the 4.0 and the 4.6?

Not talking about the bloke behind the wheel here guys.

I think the auto trans is different from memory. Thinking about buying a 4.0 and getting my hands on a 4.6 to drop in. Obviously if the auto is different then it would be an extra cost.

    Too hard basket?????????

On a p38a it should swap straight over, assuming its of similar vintage.
Eevo is right, 4.0 has the 22 and the 4.6 has the 24

If you're just doing an engine swap, the existing transmission will bolt up to the 4.6.

As long as you're not drag racing or towing half of Australia behind it, the 22 will be OK.

Is the auto trans same in 4.6 and 4.0?

And is it possible to just swap in 4.6 to a 4.0 car if an engine swap is needed particularly 99-01 models?

4hp24 is the stronger of the two, the 4hp22 will hold the 4.6 in normal driving but if you are looking for power upgrades or a tow vehicle the 4hp24 is stronger, the earlier models have a bigger torque converter (much bigger actually )

Might be worth getting a gearbox to go with the engine
