Anderson plug to white trailer socket.

    Hi guys,

The camper trailer we just bought has an Anderson plug for charging the batteries, and from what I gather, the white trailer plug on the D4 can be used to provide power to a camper trailer. So I'm just wondering if there is an adapter available to allow me to connect the anderson plug to the white trailer socket?

    Cheers

    Wont be enough unfortunately...

Traxide system (contact Drivesafe on here) is the go... You dont want to be drawing continually off the main battery... and the cable in the 12S isnt up to the feed for charging a trailer.

Will it draw power continuously? I have a vague recollection of reading that it only draws while the ignition/accessories are on?

    Sean,
It will depend on your setup and how you intend to use it. For example, if you charge your camper batteries from 240V at home before you leave - and they're fully charged, you could use the 12S to Anderson adapter to keep the camper batteries topped up until you arrive. The issue will be when you've been camping for a day or more and the camper batteries will "suck" more current than the 15A available from the 12S supply - blowing the fuse. If you use sufficient solar panels while camping (to keep the camper batteries charged), you may get around this problem.

Hi Sean, as Tombie and Jonesy have pointed out, the Battery circuit in the WHITE socket ( S12 ) is really only intended to keep a fully charged battery topped up.

    BUT.

There are two circuits in the S12 Socket, the Battery and the Fridge circuits.

The Battery circuit can be used to power a compressor type fridge 24/7 ( just be careful not to allow the battery to be discharged to low ) but if you have a 3 way fridge, the D4's Fridge circuit is ideal for powering one of these, as it only works while the motor is running.

If you do decide to use the white plug there is an adapter available on the disco UK website.

    Hello everyone,

x3 about beign careful of the current draw..

While I suspect it was more likely due to the quality of the auto sparky's work rather than the current draw, I did get a short at the back of the D4 where my Traxide system was wired through the 12S plug.

After a year or so of getting by with a home made 12N+12S to 12 pin flat adapter I've just taken the plunge and had the 12S plug replaced with a 12 pin flat and 50A Anderson plug wired up to the Traxide.

A very near job by MLR I'm sure you will agree, especially considering the complication of a Mitch Hitch!

For anyone who's interested the home made 12N+12S to 12 pin flat adapter & a 12S charging plug (12S to bare wires) may be sighted in the markets section shortly.

    Cheers,
    RickO

I have ordered the D3DS system from traxide and hopefully be installing it next week, purpose is to have a dual battery system, an extra power socket in the rear of the vehicle to run a fridge 24/7 and the Anderson plug to connect to the camper trailer and charge the trailer batteries.
With all this I'm assuming the white trailer socket on the left will be redundant (not required).
The black trailer plug on the right will run all the trailer lights and electric brakes, am I correct?
I haven't yet been able to connect the vehicle to a trailer to see if this all works.
The vehicle has the redarc trailer braking system and there are two wires coming out of the loom at the rear and into the black plug so I'm assuming this is the trailer brakes..... only just got the vehicle through a dealer so info on this stuff was vague so am hoping it is and will be as I have described once I have fitted the traxide dual battery system.

The black plug, white plug, Anderson plug thing gets a bit confusing.

    Cheers

You are correct. The original white plug on your LR will be surplus to requirements once you have fitted the Traxide kit. I have exactly the same setup that you are going to install in my D4.

I was thinking of removing the LR white plug and installing the Anderson plug in that position using an Anderson Plug housing (shown below), but am now thinking of trying to find a spot where I can cut a rectangular hole in the bumper and mount this housing / connector so that it is accessible from "outside" (I quite often use the Anderson Plug on the rear of the car when I am not towing, so would like to be able to access it without removing the cover panel in the bumper bar).

    Cheers .........
