    EGR pipe removal tips

Well today I was attempting to replace the top plastic coolant outlet and hit a slight snag with the removal of the air intake butterfly - looks like the EGR pipes need to come out first which I hadn't planned on. I only had a limited time to get the job done and getting those pipe of looks to be a real PITA! Needless to say I think I'll blank the EGR off while I have it all apart (need to order a blanking kit first but). MY question is as access is fairly tight down there what tips to you guys use to remove them. I think with an extra socket extension and a swivel knuckle it shouldn't be too bad

Shane , i did one today. I use a 1/4" drive long 12" extension with a wobble tip. A single hex 8mm socket. Undo 1 bolt all the way it won't fall out they have a lead on the end of the thread. Undo the second one while you pull up on the pipe carefully ensuring the gasket remains sitting on the egr valve flange. Fitting the blank playe is easy use a little sealant to hold the gasket to the plate and insert both bolts. I was able to actually get my hand down to sit the plate on and the socket/ bar to start yhe bolts. There is much more accessibility without the pipes in the way .

    Hi Shane,
You more than likely already know however just a small reminder to follow the coolant bleeding procedure after replacing the housing. When I replaced my outlet housing I don't remember removing the EGR pipes, ah well, must have done..

Have you got a housing yet? I've got one in my shed, I have now moved on from the TDV6.

    Cheers Marty.

Yes mate I have the housing already. I'm well versed on bleeding the cooling system, I've had to do it a few times since I've owned the d3
