    Advice on new D4 purchase

    Hi all,

I'm finally getting my dream car! Upgrading from a Pajero Exceed (which I have loved but is getting a little old now) and after looking at a few other options have finally decided it MUST be a Disco.

The model and options are a bit difficult to navigate, so I'd love some advice on options you wish you HAD got, or options you wished you saved money on.

I'm stuck between whether to option a S or just get a HSE.

    What I know so far:
I think it needs to be the 180KW SDV6
    Must have the technology pack
    Upgrade the lights?
Towing options (I tow a 1T off road camper and will need to move the P3 across)

Ready to order, just need to decide exactly what I want/need in it.

Cannot wait to get hold of it !!

    Cheers for any constructive advice,

    Smocky.

Coming from the Pajero (no insult intended) an SDV6 with a few options would be a great upgrade.

The SDV6SE is a great car, mine came with free tech pack & black pack so visually no difference from an HSE.

If you are only towing a 1 tonne trailer you do not need the brake controller.

I tow a large tandem that loaded with wood weighs two tonne & do not have any problems.

The cream interior looks great but as much as my wife liked it I went for the safe option as I have a Newfoundland & I wear jeans a lot.

The tech pack is a I believe a worthwhile option.

    Good luck

    Cheers

    What I know so far:
I think it needs to be the 180KW SDV6 ==> must be a SE or HSE to get this engine
Must have the technology pack ==> this equipment is standard with the HSE
Upgrade the lights? ==> SE and HSE come standard with the upgraded lights
Towing options (I tow a 1T off road camper and will need to move the P3 across) ==> towing equipment is standard on all models. If you need a higher hitch the tongue can be inverted or you can get a mitch hitch amongst other options. PS you wont feel 1T behind the disco

Ready to order, just need to decide exactly what I want/need in it.

    Great decision and Welcome!

wanting the 180Kw engine dictates and SE or HSE.

from there it is a matter of understanding what you get with each vehicle.

Have alook at the Aussie spec sheet from page 82 onwards in the lnked brochure. It shows exactly what you get with each model and how much the options are based on the model:

If you swap drivers a lot then memory seats are fantastic, it also gives you the automatic dipping mirrors on reverse which is useful.

Some say getting the eDiff is a must as it is quite cheap - really only useful for very heavy offroad.

    good luck!
    Cheers,

    Sean

Keyless entry. Available only on the HSE (or an expensive option on an SE).

The more options you're after, the less of a deal you're going to get.

Or talk to the dealers about demo cars - surprising what you can find... I picked up an hse with a lot of bling on it at a $30,000 discount

True keyless (proximity) entry on hse - wouldn't get anything less now I have it - leave your key in your pocket all the time
There are a few little nice touches with the hse that aren't options on Se - but it depends on your priorities and values.

Does black pack give you colour coded door handles & mirrors?

Welcome and I think you won't regret this upgrade. My thoughts below, obviously a lot of this is subjective and personal.

    Cheers,

I think it needs to be the 180KW SDV6 - not "required" for your 1t camper but definitely very nice to have I'm very happy with the TDV6
Must have the technology pack - agreed
Upgrade the lights? - this is the one thing I would get if I had my time again.
Towing options (I tow a 1T off road camper and will need to move the P3 across) - my opinion, don't bother. Get a Redarc TowPro. I have one and my Dad has a P3. The TowPro is much neater and has same functionality. But if it's what you know, well that's ok too. Plenty of both in Discos.
Either way, make sure it's fitted by someone who knows the vehicle wiring.

    Smocky,
Good luck in making your decision. If I did it again I would still get the HSE but would have not purchased the factory roof racks and side steps as you will find out there a lot of alternatives and some good vendors on this forum. EG GOE. If you have a lot of rear seat passengers the air conditioning control alone is worth it.

One item worth looking into is increasing to the 5 factory (LR) warranty. However you can purchase it later up until the 3 year warranty expires but it may cost more and may be different. Some are covered by Allianz and not LR.

These are small items but I would recommend in the purchase from the dealer if you can get a good price.
    1. Window tinting (privacy on rear windows),
    2. 3rd row rubber mats,
    3. Rear cargo rubber mat (A lot better than anything I have seen in auto shops).
    4. Choose your 19"or 20 rims in accordance with your requirements, and maybe even a second spare. Looking back I may have got 20"($1500 Extra) on when buying the vehicle and then bought GOE 18"rims. Still not sure on that as it might not got approved by the other half.
    5. Obviously the tow ball receiver.

Check Scotts for what can be done once you buy it...

    Andy,
Good point, I must retract that line. Thinking about it I only use the factory for the 8x5 trailer and have also had purchase ones for the boat and van.
