Lots of tyre threads here but thought I'd share my appalling experience with this tyre. Have a D4 with 19" rims and use the vehicle as a daily driver and offroad to visit bush campsites around NSW and beyond.
I fitted a set of Hankook Dynapro AT-M's a bit over 12 months ago. To date I've experienced 3 sidewall tears travelling to National Park camp sites, towing a trailer. The latest tear was to one of the previously replaced tyres that that had less than 6000km travel.
Agree, the 19" rim is the Achilles heal of the Disco 4 but have never experienced this level of failure in a product marketed as a durable premium tyre for sealed and unsealed use.
I have a TPMS system and onboard compressor and pay particular attention to tyre pressure. I initial ran the type at around 30psi offroad and have upped this to around 36psi. I believe the inherent sidewall bulge of the tyre design makes it an easy target for pinching and tearing.
Definitely not travelling on trails that would be considered extreme....designated fire trails in all failure instances travelling at appropriate speeds....an AT tyre should have no issues travelling these roads.
Yep, would love to buy some GOE 18" rims...but have been spending the hard eared on replacing the tyres I've got!
The Hankook's have warn well...travelled 34,000 on the original two not damaged and would expect to get another 30,000 out of them...but currently my wife is reticent to travel anywhere distant for fear of another failure!! May not be an issues for 16, 17, 18" rims...but in my opinion these tyres are not fit for purpose in a 19" format.
Currently looking to replace with a GG or Cooper LTZ.
Will have some second hand...slightly used Hankooks in the near future!.

Oh dear.
I was seriously considering Hankooks soon as the Wranglers are wearing and have begun suffering punctures - 3 in 3 weeks
Maybe just unlucky?
Cooper stories are either for or against. I'm not convinced to try them.
Duratracs perhaps more MT than AT for my needs.
Awaiting further opinions....

Oh gawd!I have just had six 19" rims fitted with the Hankook Dynapros.
Sorry to hear you are having a rotton run with the Hankooks, I have completed 32,000 km in the last 12 months, so far we have been down to 12 psi a few times down south in deep sand, a bit of forrest work around the south west, a weekend with GOE in Harvey, towing Jayco Swan and the rest the 120KM a day to work, I have been running on the road at 38, 40 while towing, 18 in the forrest and pretty low in the sand ( I used to get bogged quite often in the sand round here, so I go down pretty low straight up and don't have any issues )
They are wearing very well, are still quiet and hopefully will last another 30km.
Maybe a bad batch? Or just plain bad luck, it happens sometimes.
Touch wood I have been very happy so far ( fingers crossed )

Interesting, I've done about 45K on my set, including some pretty rough stuff around lithgow, the high country and on this trip..
Aliens Great SA Trip ....
I did tear the side wall out of one rear left tyre on the way up here:
But to be honest, I think that was at least significantly contributed to by the driver.
I guess the one big difference I have is not been towing..... so the additional weight over the back wheels may be the difference. (Even though I do have long range tank and Kaymar bar which isn't light)
There seem to be quite a few that are happy with the Hankooks including me, but I have been pondering whether I'd try the Duratracs next time.

Which tyres is certainly a quandary with 19 inch rims?? My OE Wranglers have done 52,000km and will not do another winter. Prices I have obtained have a $130 saving per tyre for the Dynapros vs Duratracs.
Don't know which way to go??![]()
