Question regarding day running lights D4

    Hey guys

Im asking this question for a friend.

They bought a 2012 D4 of the forecourt from a Land rover dealer late last year I think.

When test driving the car my friend asked about the day running lights (which weren't on) the dealer advised that if he wanted them on they could be turned on just need to bring the car in.

Anyway he contacted the dealership after taking the car and yes they were told to just bring the car in and arranged a day.

They drove up to the dealer which was quite some distance away (over an hours drive)
Only to find that person on the phone who told them what day to come In had not actually booked them in so when they arrived they were kept waiting and told to basically go away because they didn't have a booking.

When they advised that they had called and were told to bring the car down on that day by what ever person it was, they were then told that the day running lights could not be turned on on that car? Contrary to what they were told upon purchase.

Can anyone here tell me if thats the case?

Does anyone else with a 2012 TDv6 have day running lights on?

Or is it true they cant be turned on.

First things first, just so that we are on the same page when you talk about gaytime runnng lights on the MY12 D4 you mean low beam on the main light cluster and not the LED fairy lights? There is a setting in the CCF for this and they are activated on certain EU and US markets. The handbook/ workshop manual makes reference to this. I've never bothered changing these settings in the CCF so can't say 100% if it would work but can't see why not. I've installed static bending globes and changed the CCF to enable them and work as per factory. There may be some restriction on Xenon vs halogen but seeing that it is a standards in many O/S markets my bet it is a simple setting change but if the LR dealer can actually do this with their diagnostics verses a Nanocom type unit is another question.

I have used my IID tool to select the Canadian option in the ccf in lights. This puts the lights on when D is selected and the park brake is off.

Thank you. So I have read the thread and If i understand it correctly.

They are not fitted with DRL but are fitted with signature LED signature lights (presumably that means its just a style thing to say hey Im a Land Rover??)

However if you can get your hands on an IID tool you can change the headlight settings to Canadian which means those signature lights act light DRL.

So the question i guess I have then is should the signature lights be working?? Or do they have to be turned on too.
I got the impression from my friend that these LEDs don't light up at all?!
They were told they don't have the right model??

    FWIW,is it a 2.7 or a 3.0l?

Mine is 2.7 and i don't think they came with DRL,mine doesn't have them.
It has a pattern of leds in the headlight, but they don't run during the day.

Mine has the LED signature lights. They are pretty bright I regularly get flashed in poor light conditions. Then again same when on low beam.

On the 2012 the signature lights only came with the xenon upgrade. On their own they are only decorative as they are low power.
This is why I have selected the Canadian option. I do a lot of country miles.

Whether or not you select Canadian or Scandinavian driving lights all it does is switch on the low beam and the signature lights IFfitted. If the signature lights don't come on with the headlight switch already, they are not fitted, despite it looking like they might be there.

Other than that there are subtle differences between the two settings, I think Scandinavian may be switched on all the time while the engine is running and there may be some difference with what is going on with the rear lights.

Most tools that can change the CCF (m car configuration file) are locked to a vehicle VIN. Some dealers are not capable of using the equipment they have been supplied with, I remember having to talk a technician (he laughs) through setting up new keys for my D2. I had no idea what I was doing but if you read the screen and menu options hey presto!
