    Aircon query

    Hi All

Just bought a discovery 4 3.0 tdv6 3.00 2011 model with 155k on the clock and noticed the aircon takes 3-4 minutes to start working and then is fine , can someone let me know if that is normal as I have asked the dealer to check as have 3 months warranty and wanted to make sure all ok . My mate has a 2015 model and recons that is normal ?

    Nope. Not normal.

I had a MY10 and now own an MY13 .... aircon started within seconds of start-up in both cars.

Certainly not normal but mine has started doing the same thing since they did the inlet manifolds. Seems a common issue with L322's as well and I had the same thing on my VW Multivan at 100,000km. Once it goes it is fine but it is a bit hot while waiting for it to start. I will get mine fixed, probably a new compressor, since fixing the offending valve doesn't always last long without a new compressor from what I have read. It is related to the always on compressor type air con that these cars use.

Maybe Graeme can explain what is going on???

Do you mean for the cold air to come through or for the fan to fire up at all? Our 2010 RRS takes a minute or so for the cold air to come arrive

My MY06 is often that - up to 6 minutes for truly cold air to exit the vents...

I always thought my MY05 took a while to get cold. The added bonus of getting a new engine is that I get my AC re-gassed (I feel compelled to find a positive in anything to do with this engine replacement!!). It will be interesting to see if it performs any better.

I just got mine regassed and inspected to see why it was taking a long time to start. They said it was perfect and then when I picked it up while it was 42 degrees outside, the A/C wouldn't start cooling for over 5 minutes, just blew hot air flat out. It finally started and then worked fine.

Its been good for a week and then on the weekend wouldn't start cooling again for over 3 minutes. After that, fine again.

Mine hasnt missed a beat, too new.Always cold straight away.
I have never turned the air off, even in winter, just pic a temp and fan speed.
I recall reading the aircon pump in these are constant flow so if its running may as well have it on.
I could be wrong, happy to be corrected.
