The dying days of the ATM

I’m pretty sure the dinosaurs died out when they stopped gathering food and started having meetings to discuss gathering food

A bookshop is one of the only pieces of evidence we have that people are still thinking

I suspect that like many such publicised "demise of" stories, while it has some truth, it is exaggerated. I have difficulty seeing cash disappearing altogether, and while I think that at the moment we certainly have too many ATMs in a lot of places, I think they will be around almost as long as cash is.

if they are on the way out, how come Australians spent $576 million in ATM fees last year? I'd like to get a slice of that 'dying' pie...

Although it looks like ATM use is backing off, I don't see a cashless society in my lifetime. Geez, at most bakeries it's still cash only. They said the introduction of the GST would cause our society to become cashless - see how that turned out....

It's still a sought after commodity and I can still haggle at a lot of businesses and get a better deal by breaking out the cash.

And, if all the ATM's disappear, then heavens forbid - I'll actually have to walk into a bank to withdraw some - I bet no ones done that for a while - I certainly haven't.

Banks are an endangered species out side of suburbia.ATM's are their replacement in the country.I foresee the cash in hand bank depriving the govt of extra taxes.

Just remember, the banks aren't closing branches to benefit their customers, it's all about profits. Service to customers is not a high priority. Walk into the bank branch and get a real person to serve you.
Incidentally, don't use automated supermarket checkouts either as they just put people out of jobs. If we all joined the 40% who already refuse to use them they would be taken out.

I've never used a self serve checkout - the whole idea of them disgusts me.

I have been invited to use them many times while standing in line. My response has always been 'Do I get a discount for using them?' Their reply 'No' so I say 'Then why would I?' That leaves a puzzled look on their faces.

I once went into a smaller Coles store - no checkouts open, only self serve - I made the assistant put through all my shopping while she 'showed' me how to use them. When she asked me to swipe my card, I gave it to her to do, then made her get the receipt and give it to me.

For anyone who uses them - shame on you...

I use them. If i want one or two things and theres two people with full trolleys at each checkout it takes AGES. I can use the self serve checkout and be done in a minute.

But if i have a trolley full of stuff or its not busy ill go through the assisted checkout.
    Anyways i hate atm fees.

    Cheers

Do you pump your own fuel or demand an attendant
By all means get a Defender. If you get a good one, you'll be happy. If you get a bad one, you'll become a philosopher.
