270 amp AGM 2nd Batt

Got 6 years out of my previous Deep Cycle flooded battery. Pretty impressive given the frequent DOD (Depth Of Discharge) of 70-80%.


The two batts under the seat have always been a very tight fit and a hassle to get in & out when required. So, bit the bullet and bought a 270 ah AGM that now sits behind the front seats on the floor. There's only two of us so no issue but regardless it still doesn't encroach into the passengers foot area anyway.


Great knowing I can sit through a few days of use without worrying about power.


Just need to work out the best way to secure in the 'fender eg. make a frame to bolt to the floor, place in a custom box, turnbuckles, rachett setup etc. Weighs almost 80kg.

I put drawers in the back and fitted the AGM in the space behind the drawer so its hidden but handy. Just a thought.

I think the 80kg bit is the concern---
if its flooded, it needs a battery box anyway,,
but some serious steel/alloy straps!
reinforced floor mounts etc etc,

Yes, 80kg is a lot of battery weight to have loose.
My 120 AMP is heavy enough. It is held down with angle iron and posts into tie-down points through the floor. Even if they came loose the battery would still be contained under the rear of the drawers.
If its a sealed AGM it should be alright inside, shouldn't it? They said it could be mounted anyway and it would stay sealed.

AGM are OK inside a vehicle. At least from what I have read (and did ).

Hi folks and this comes up all the time.

ALL TYPES OF LEAD ACID BATTERIES CAN BE SAFELY USED INSIDE THE CAB OF ANY VEHICLE.

Also note, all types of lead acid battery should be housed in a plastic battery box.

The advantage of a "SEALED" battery, regardless of whether it an AGM or a maintenance free wet battery, is that it is much less likely to spill/spew electrolyte while you are driving.

BUT, all lead acid batteries are likely to spew electrolyte if the battery is over charged.

Over charging of a battery is a very, VERY rare occurrence while driving but is very common when charging with a battery charger.

So if you have no intentions of ever charging your battery with a battery charger, you should be fine if you fit the battery without the use of a battery box.

Simply remove the battery if you ever need to charge it with a battery charger.
