    Accessories

Couple of questions on accessories for the D4 if I may.

Does anyone have the original RAI here in Melb that I can have a look at? I'm afraid I don't like the look of the Safari unit and would prefer the original. I know it's not waterproof, but I'm sure this can be fixed from what I've read on here, and have discussed this with both LR and OL, it seems I "may" be able to get it delt with at the dealer (?).

Another question,, with a second tank fitted, does anybody know if it's possible to change the "total litre" value in the computer to allow for this? Which means if you fill both tanks (this is the gravity fed unit) it would give the fuel total of approx 160lts so the car can work out how far you have to travel on that instead of the 70lts.
Hope that makes sense. I generally always fill my tank to the top unless I'm in a hurry for work or something, so I'd prefer this option, but I may also see what can be done about having a secondary gauge fitted.

I asked about this some time ago and was told that it can't be done.

You soon get used to having the fuel gauge work on only the main tank though - it has never bothered me. I just drive until the gauge starts to move from "full" and know that I have roughly 80 litres remaining from then, which is still enough range to get you pretty much anywhere. Sometimes I set one of the trip meters to zero when I fill up - range can be anywhere between 900 - 1000km on mine before the fuel gauge starts to move.

Best run I ever did with both tanks was from Ceduna to Port Augusta - but had a good stiff tail wind all the way across the paddock that trip.

I have found that roof rack loading and the head winds that you usually encounter across the paddock (by Murphy's law) will usually reduce that range by quite a bit - and my normal fuelling stops are top-up at Norseman and fill at Ceduna.
    Cheers .........

The absolute, must have accessory you need that should be standard equipment in a D4.

    Bring it to Winter Wombat.

A nice compact unit like this works well in the Disco. Fits nicely in one of the cup holders ....................

The ones that they lug around in the Defenders are more flexible in what they can do, but you have to pull over and get out of the vehicle to make your coffee. They're a bugger in the rain.

Some people I know even have a microwave fitted in the back of their Defender. Don't think I'd recommend this in a D4.
    Cheers .........

This old thread has some good details regarding sealing the inlet piping:
