Handbrake shoe hold down spring necessary?

    G'day all,

I'm currently replacing a handbrake cable in the 300TDI wagon and when refitting the brake shoe hold down spring the washer made a break for freedom and it's current whereabouts are unknown.

I am sourcing another one but it in the mean time I'm wondering just how necessary is it to the longevity and reliability of the handbrake.

    Thanks
    Woody

In a D2 it would rattle like **** and drive you mad.
LR even sell stronger red springs to stop the chorus.
I would think defender will be the same s eyeing it's the same transfer.
