The work was done by the independent who built the 110 station wagon for me in 1996. It started life as a 1992 110 pick up but I bought it in 1996 and had it converted into a 9 seater.
Anyway the cost including parts/labour/vat etc came to €820 or 1206 AUD. I have no complaints with the bill as the work is always done well. Wonder what a maindealer would have charged?
Wish it was that cheap to get work done on defenders here in Oz , sounds very reasonable .
For the amount of work done there that sounds like a very fair price indeed...
I wish I could say the same for the prices out here in NZ and more than likely not much difference to the prices in OZ. But I wouldn't part with her......![]()
I wouldn't be surprised to be charged that just for the timing belt! I saw this program from the UK called "a race car is born".In it they had the vehicle in an exhaust engineers workshop for about a week where they fabricated a whole exhaust system, including headers, from stainless steel ,using state of the art computer aided pipe benders. The headers were a PITA as the engine was shoehorned in amongst the frame. It was a work of art once completed.
Total cost was 700GBP.
Just checked the bill. The labour came to €370 (544 AUD). Vat was added with the final total.
The second service on a new D4 costs almost that here from the dealer
And all they do is change the oil and filter, replace a couple of other filters, and very little else.![]()
2 year service on the 110 cost about $1000 from the dealer
Great value spudfan.
My LR dealer is $140 hour, my independent LR specialist is $130 hour.
As far as I can tell the difference is a couple head mechanic oversea many apprentices at the dealer; where as the independent has many mechanics that oversea a couple apprentices.
Either way I wish your mechanic was down the road from me.
