    Should i worry?

... if on a 700Km motorway run at +30*C the gear stick, console around it and inside the cubby box was hot?(not excessively but nooticeable) started at about half distance and stayed so all the way... the oil level was fine, oil almost new, what i observed is that the heat shield was missing...any thoughs?

Standard thing at those ambient temperatures on a Defender

I can't remeber our now gone D2 doing this but there is lot of insulation under the carpet so it may have been masked.
    Cheers, Kyle

Is it possible to replace the heat shield? less work for the aircon if the cabin is cooler.
What do you mean by the cubby box?

    Regards

Assume you mean the big plastic heat shield that sits over the gearbox itself, if so then you will notice it on a run like that , also worth checking that the rubber boots ( one over the bias plate and the other separating the tunnel from the cab) aren't ripped , it is worth replacing that shield though but you will have to drop the cross member and gearbox mounts to do it as you need to lower the box a fair bit , also don't think the euro spec disco's have a cooler on the manual boxes which might be worth looking into if long runs / towing / hot weather are on the cards

My d2 gets hot in the console area on hot days.
Apparently it's in the owners manual that it's recommended that when not using the climate control, set it at full flow fresh air, directed entirely to the feet.
It gets the airflow going around the tunnel and makes a noticeable difference.

Nothing to worry about, mine is the same and that's with a gearbox cooler.

Passenger foot well (Drivers for you) will also pickup a fair amount of heat from the exhaust as well.
