    Intercooler upgrade ????? 300TDI

300 tdi, defender. I have removed the aircon on my defender. I have the extended grill. Now the Question after researching there appears to be numerous $900 Aust plus inter coolers, from over seas, our British mates and some in Australia.

Both front mounted and upgraded models that fit in the original spot. There also appears the same specification as the expensive ones on EBAY for half the price. Has anyone fitted a cheaper version and have they had any issues. I'm about to start towing my camper and want to drop EGTS a bit. Alternatively any other models that have been fitted with not much hassle. Baz

I got the upgraded replacement one from Alisport . A little bit of messing around to fit it to the std frame , but no real problems .
Seemed to work ok , but when I flushed the intercooler with turps to clean out the oil , I discovered a small leak where the tubes join the tank .
Alisport told me it was acceptable and would not affect the performance and they may be right , but I was a little dissapointed.

That sounds weird. Did you weld it up?

I think you would have to cut the whole thing open , unless there is some kind of liquid sealant you could pour on and let set .

    small air leak

a small air leak is no problem as long as it doesn't get bigger. I have the APT inter cooler and tweaked fuel pump its a good cheap improvement.
