The balance between pad compound hardness and disc.
I recollect some discussions here on this subject. It might be worth a "search" in the meantime.
My 95 Disco is very gentle on pads and rotors.
Had TD5 Disco in FOR 70,000 k service the other day and was told I will need new Brake rotors on the back and the front one's machined very soon. The pads are only half worn.
Was wondering if their is an after market one's for the 2003 Disco? as the one's on the 94 Disco have done 280,000k and had two lots of brake pads since I have had it and are still in good order and hardly a groove on them

Speaking of brakes - I had the pads changed on my Rangie about 10000 clicks ago and they still screech when i'm pulling up to stop, I was told that the screech would go away after a little while. Can anyone shed some light on this for me???
Thanks

EBC import rotors for the Disco2 in plain faced or slotted/dimpled for fronts and rear. I'm pretty sure Dba also manufacture rotors to suit. The problem with the Disco2 rotor is that there isn't a lot of wear before they come down to minimum thickness spec from new. I've heard of these being replaced as young as about 40,000km! My Disco has 78K on the clock and has been on its second set of rotors since approx 60-65K.

I think some pads just are more prone to squeel depending on their composition, though they are most prone when new. Sometimes backing paste on the back of the pad can absorb the vibrations from the squeel, though reports are that this doesn't always help.
