    Exclamation D4 3.0L 17" Wheels? Confused!

    Hi all,

Firstly, my apologies for bringing up what seems to be a noob question.

Maybe it's just because I've been researching it recently, but the issue of 17" wheels on the 3.0L D4 is still confusing me.

    1. Reference the thumbnail photo - which is the placard from my very own 3.0L D4, It says that it is rated for 17" tyres!

    2. A quote request from JAX Tyres Aspley (Brisbane) gave me several options for 17" wheels that apparently would fit my car. Links to a couple of those are below.
    http://www.kmcwheels.com/wheel/17768/xd811-rs2
    http://www.americanracing.com/wheel/10359/ar890
    http://www.kmcwheels.com/wheel/19854/xd822-monster-ii
Just to clarify - the professionals at JAX Tyres said these wheels would fit my car (even after I asked them if they were sure lol)

    3. Everyone knows that 18" wheels from compomotive fit the 3.0L D4. I have also seen first hand - CSA Raptors and Jackals in 18" fit the 3.0L D4. BUT! No one seems to be able to fit 17s?

    So my confusion is this...

Has JAX Tyres just got this wrong? Also, has LR just placarded my car for 17" Tyres despite the fact that 17" wheels would never fit? Why would the placard show that size?

I've had my D4 for 4 months now, and I've been in this forum for 4 days now - I'm still learning.

Surely a lot of you guys have wrestled with this problem already and have some definitive information so that I might put this to bed and buy 18s lol.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Brad.

17" rims will not fit a 3.0 Ltre D4.. Jax are right WRONG. Even LR factory 18" will not fit the front.

The other issue that you need to be careful of with aftermarket 18" is not only do they fit..... but are they load rated to take the correct weight.

    What year is you D4?

That sticker covers all the D4 models in all markets.
The D4 also came with a 2.7 motor in Australia.18" will fit these and presumably the 17" D3 wheel as it had the same brake package..
In other markets it was also available with no low range.
All 3.0l D4s in Australia have the big brake package
In Australia the only wheel that will fit the 3.0 is the Compomotive wheel.
Those CSA wheels you mention do not fit,Aaron40 got a tyre shop to order 2 in for a test fit.1 would go over the caliper but not turn, the other would not go over the caliper.
This has been done to death in the 18" rim thread.

    Thanks for your reply!

    It's a 2012.

Also, just to clarify, Jax said that those 17 inch wheels (the ones that I linked) WOULD fit my car. This is part of why I'm confused..

Any ideas why my placard shows 17's?

    Thanks

    Brad.

Same as mine Brad... nice choice.

I think Andy hit the nail on the head.... that placard will be standard across all models... the 3.0 has bigger front brakes than the 2.7 - that's why the bigger rims.

Also as Andy points out.. just cause a tyre place says they will fit... doesn't mean it's true

Tyre placard doesn't say they fit..

It lists a selection of factory sizes and the load ratings/pressures of them.

Just like the handbook lists all the options but many vehicles don't have them..

I suggest you never visit Jax again as they are clearly clueless. I guess you could have fun with them though and get them to order some in at their expense and watch them try and fit them. It won't work - that's friggin obvious if you simply exit the drivers seat and inspect the rims on your car and look at the clearance between the brake caliper and rim. There is not an inch (1 inch radius, 2 inch diameter) that you can afford to lose. Doesn't take a genius to work that out. Naked eye can see that.

Thank you all for your replies, as I said I'm new to the forum and didn't intentionally bring up what is obviously old news.

I'll be giving some 19" options a try while saving for compomotives. From the 18" wheel thread they seem to be excellent.

Thanks again for answering my questions.

    You're welcome Brad...

We all had to learn somewhere and there isn't much better place than here for learning.

I'm running 255/55/19 Goodyear Duratracs that seem to be doing the job nicely.

Lots of Tire threads too.... you'll find the Google search at the bottom left of the pages gets you the best results

    Cheers,
