6-speed transmission query ... and DR Tranny availability

    Gday...

D3 2006 TDV6 SE - 215,000km on clock. Transmission oil changes every 50,000Km - last done - full flush and filter 15,000km ago.

Firstly, I don't experience any transmission 'shudder' - but recently on LOOONG hills (eg going up to Toowoomba) despite holding 2nd in manual at about 2,500rpm I get what I can only call a 'hesitancy' - sort of like a 'surge'. The car sort of slows momentarily and then picks up ... it it was an 'old style' car, I would describe it as 'momentary fuel starvation'. This is towing my 2,600Kg van.

Performs perfectly in D on any other sort of hill and gear changes up and down are seamless and perfect. Any ideas?

Secondly, I have considered putting some Dr Tranny in as 'insurance' - I am in East Gippsland Victoria. Does anyone know where I could obtain some?

    Either online or in person.

    Cheers - John

The last Dr Tranny I bought came from Burson Auto Parts.

That sounds exactly like mine, but I would get error codes. Some shouting gearbox problems, plus other assorted errors.
I did the Dr Tranny, cleaned the connectors behind the battery, fixed a broken wire on the radio surpressor on the gearbox. All to no avail. And just like yours it only ever had problems whilst towing.

I've just replaced the alternator as I was only getting about 13.8volts. Now I get the required 14.5v .

Its too soon to know if its cured, but lots of volts has got to be good.

    Read you codes first.

Toowoomba would test anything. It is one mean hill!

The transmission temp would be above 100 degrees and the EGT's would be up at the maximum plus 2500rpm is where the secondary turbo transitions into play. I doubt that it would be transmission but my money would be on surging due to issues with the secondary turbo cutting in and out if you sat right on those revs.

I monitored my temps on the GAP IID in cool weather towing my 2200 Kimberley Karavan to Albany over Christmas. The coolant went to about 109 up any hills and the transmission temp went to over 100 up the same hills, which you can take at 100 kph, so nothing like Toowoomba. No movement of the temp gauge at all but I found that the radiator fan kicks in at about 108 degrees.

Dr Tranny - availability in Australia

I have just been on quite a journey in order to get my hands on some Dr Tranny.

After phoning around all the major auto spare I moved on to the independents and found that it is wholesaled by Motospecs who are owned by Repco.

The local Repco store said no, then I gave them the part number and they wanted $42 per tube.

I phoned Motospecs.com.au on 1800 605 673, they were amazingly friendly considering I didn't have an account and wanted $13 +GST per tube + $10 for overnight freight.

Pity, I've got 6 tubes sitting here in Melbourne that I don't need. Tried to post a thread saying so but it got shifted and disappeared in the For Sale section...
