    Angry D4 Transmission issue

I recently experienced an issue with my D4 8 speed. After travelling some 120 klms I stopped at the local supermarket, nose in in a marked space. Upon returning to the car I started it and placed the selector into Reverse. On moving approximately 4 metres the car stalled, with the engine management light illuminated. I then placed the selector into Park and turned the ignition off. When I restarted the car it was locked in Park. At this time I had a "Transmission Failure" message on the dash display. Again turned the ignition off and left it for about a minute. When I restarted the car I was able to select Reverse, then Drive. Travelled approximately 30 metres before being stopped at traffic lights wher the vehicle stalled again. Failure light had disappeared but the engine management light remained on until I got home (2.5klms) where I turned the vehicle off.
The following morning I called the dealer and was advised to have the car towed to the service area. Strangely the tow vehicle operator advised me that he had picked up another D4 diesel just 2 weeks prior. On that ocassion the vehicle had locked in Park and could it be driven into the tow vehicle.
Unfortunately the dealer service team were unable to identify any issues with the car and advised that they could not find any related LR bulletin.
My car has done just 9000 ks.
Has anyone experienced similar problems and if so was there any issue identified?

Not commenting on the faults but you should familiarise yourself with the procedure to mechanically release the gearbox from Park if you don't already know it.

Is this noted in the manual Graeme?

Many D3s and a few D4s too have been dragged onto flat-beds because neither the driver nor the tow-truck driver knew how to get the gbox out of Park, often only due to a flat battery.

    D4 Transmission Issue

    Thanks Graeme,

I will have to check with the dealer as the townie advised me that the unit he picked up two weeks prior did not have a release and had to be winched onto the truck.

    Cheers

My RRV's gearbox release is under the cup-holders on the passenger side of the rotary knob and the EPB release is near the fuel filler.
