Ok, this one is a little strange, but whether I'm off road or on road, I sometimes get a sound from the front drivers side wheel area and associated vibration through the steering wheel, floor etc. that is akin to a tyre scrubbing on the mudguard.
I have stock size wheels and tyres and stock suspension, and there is no indication of any rubbing anywhere inside the wheel arch, nothing even comes close. However it always happens on a particular right hand corner near my house where some subsidence has caused a minor drop off. As I drive through the corner and the front wheels drop off the sound kicks in as soon as the suspension rebounds and continues for a few seconds then disappears entirely. This is not a sharp corner at all, steering wheel only turned about 90 degrees from centre at most.
Never happens on level road, but can almost always hear/feel it when ascending/rock crawling off road. Its not related to traction control or any other system because no indicator lights come on when it occurs.
Assuming there is no tyre contact with any part of the body, what would be an internal cause for this? Bearings/Diff?
Many thanks!
Dave.

SubscriberGood question....I am normally off the brakes well before I hit the bump so have yet to try it, but will see if it makes any difference and post back.
If it doesn't happen under braking then what would that point to?

Might be a silly question but could there be a stone stuck somewhere that only rubs when you turn?
Maybe check your front brake hoses. There's a recall out for some 2015/16 models that have an issue with the front brake lines rubbing on the tyres.
Dust shield i thought was a know fault of cracking , This could rub and cause a slight vibration .
Thanks for the replies everybody, I tried the brake yesterday and it actually stopped it happening, but my clutch foot is a little heavy and I cant be sure I didn't bleed enough ks off to alter the severity of the bump and invalidate the test so will try it again this afternoon with less brake and see.
I have yet to take the wheel off to have a really good look, but its clearly the next step. I will check
calipers
brake lines
foreign material
I did a search regarding the brake line recall and found an article stating affected vehicles fall within the VIN range SALLDWBR8FA461900 to SALLDHRP7FA465615
How do I confirm my vehicle falls within that range? Do I just ignore all the letters and focus on the last 6 numbers?
