    Galvanise 130 chassis

Anyone up and decide to galvanise their Defender chassis?

My chassis is in near mint condition having been a country car all it's life....the paint is starting to thin out and it will need attention to stop the rust gaining a foot hold.

There are a few inherent risks like warping, but seems like a better outcome than a blast and respray....and not that expensive.

Very tempted to do it whilst I have it off the road for a few other mods.

    Cheers,

    Jason

Ok, not a Deefer. Start at about 20:18, if it doesn't do it automatically.

If you plan to keep the car long term, and don't mind the work, then I'd say it's a great idea. It does of course mean a TOTAL strip down.

I wouldn't hesitate to galvanise a chassis; in fact I've always said if I found a decent 130 chassis I'd put 4BD1 mounts on it and galvanise it just because one day I'll want one.

Well...I'll be welding some 4BD1 mounts into this soon enough.

Looking like I need to yoink the cab off!

Be warned. It’s a lot of work. And it’s not a guarantee it won’t rust. My Perentie has been galed twice. And you need to be very particular who works on it. I took the Perentie to get a new exhaust and the DH welded an efn bracket to the chassis. When I wasn’t happy he got real snarly.

But it’s a set and forget mod. Great for beach work. I also galed the firewall and chassis brackets. I was cursing at the time having to retap all the captured nuts, but I eventually got over it. Galvanise 130 chassis
