    Angry D4 Exhaust Manifold leak

    Hi All,

I have a 2012 D4 but has started having exhaust manifold leaks occurring over the past 6 months. They have occurred after I've had it in 3rd and using the engine for braking on the Hill into Adelaide on the South Eastern Freeway.

First it was the right side which was fixed by the LR dealer in Adelaide (no names) under extended warranty but now, out of warranty, the left has gone and the right has gone again. Both have gone in the rear ports and broken studs. Its currently with a reputable Independent LR mechanic in Adelaide with the body off and getting the timing and injector pump belt done while the body is off (looking for the positives).

Just seeing if I'm the only one with this exhaust issue or if there are others, and to ask for the brains trust for comments on why this might be happening.

I have had a D2 in the past with a warped manifold and this makes the same sound fyi but D4s are not known to have this problem.

your advise and comments are welcomed,

    Flotty1974

Certainly seen this too however the vehicle in question was remapped and did lots of hard work...

Mine did it on both manifolds, with broken studs on the end with a large cantilever from the last stud, which breaks.

Not really a huge issue unless it starts making a lot of noise or affects the turbo due to lack of exhaust pressure. They only found mine when we replaced both turbos but it was not causing any problems at the time.

Thanks for the feedback. When the right side first went, it was with the stock exhaust and ECU program. The recent one was after a 3" exhaust and a remap but no heavy work. I was thinking it might be the same issue as the D2s with the manifold warping and needing a shave. It sure whistled like a D2.
