fuel pick up (sender) from 2.2 or td5 into 2.4

Might be an odd Q but my 2.4 sender is broken (another gift from the dodgy mechanic) and knowing that the 2.2 and TD5 had a low pressure pump in the sender is there merit in using a 2.2 (or TD5) is lieu. Is it a straight swap? If not, what is required to make it work. I know the TD5 had an inertia switch (no idea about 2.2). Is an inertia switch required?
A quick price comparison: 2.4 sender unit GBP100 v's the 2.2 at GBP200.
Before someone poses the Q - The primary motivation is priming of the system on filter change. Just trying to work out the cost/benefit.
