Bilstein Shocks - Anyone ??

Gday all,

I see in the UK they are advertising a B6 Bilstein shock for the air suspension D3 / D4. anyone tried or using them ?

I bought a 1 used front and 1 used rear complete unit and they have bilstein shocks , I was looking at the numbers on the shocks and these supposedly supersede that model.

I liked the Bilsteins I had on my D2 , so would think the D3 should benefit from them if they are as good.

I don't know the model number but I'm pretty sure TerryO from this site tried Bilstein shocks on his D4 and was unimpressed. This was a while ago so there maybe improvements in Bilstein and other potential options that others tried. At the time the conclusion was that the OEM was better than all the other contenders for the D4. Don't know who actually makes the OEM shock and it may not be the case for the D3, as I'm sure they run a different shock to the D4.

TerryO used Konis and had problems. I tried Bilsteins on my D3. They worked very well until the fronts blew after 8-10K, I had the fronts replaced under warranty and they lasted another 8-10K. The importer replaced those with LR originals.
The rear Bilsteins were fine and still going strong 100K later.

I was very happy with the ride and control until they failed.

Thanks for the clarification, as I said ... It was a while ago. Knew they were a well known and credible brand.

I'd say failing at 8-10K is not optimal ... I'd say that's a problem like the Konis. No?

Bilsteins were comparable to original price wise. When I was looking for a D 3 I read an article from a journo who had them installed on a D3 and was happy. As Bilsteins had a good reputation I thought they would be better than OEM and decided to fit them. I did prefer them to the OEMs but couldn’t see myself changing them every 10K. I see that Arnett sell a strut for the front running a Bilstein damper maybe it is improved.

My Indi won't use them anymore in D3/4.To many issues.
Only genuine.

Had them on my D2a,they were great,Puma has them as well.
