P0101 fault code 2012 2.2l

Hi all,

Driving along a couple of weeks ago i was entering the freeway (80km/h) and gave the 90 a poke of the throttle to merge with traffic and the malfunction indication light came on the dash and the car went into limp mode.

I managed to get to my destination and plug in my nancom which gave the following reading.

CODE: P0101
Mass or volume air flow - circuit range/performance.
(INTERMITTENT)

I reset the code and drove home a different route (60km/h max speed limit) and the light stayed off but the defender didnt feel 100%.

I did some searching online and checked all the intercooler hoses (BAS silicone hoses) and they were all clamped tight with no rub throughs.

I bought some MAF sensor cleaner and gave the MAF sensor a good clean. That seemed to make the defender feel 100% again but the malfunction light came on again and this time at 50km/h.

I decided to change the fuel and air filters but this didn't help in anyway.

Im thinking the intercooler may have a hairline crack in it somewhere? I havnt been off road in a long time though so it seems odd.

Basic servicing of the 90 and changing a hose or two is the extent of my mechanical knowledge so any help is appreciated.
