    Odd flasher relay behaviour

    Hi all,

I've got an odd one, or at least I haven't heard of it before. As soon as I turn the key my flasher relay switches quickly when nothing is activated. The lights don't come on, just the relay going nuts and the trailer dash light blinking. No indicators no hazard on. But as soon as you activate the indicators or hazard the relay goes to the normal switching timing and properly lights the globes. It's the correct part, I believe 8876, Lukas branded relay. It's been in for a couple years and no problems up until now. I've tried the mod where you cut the #7 pin on the IC in the relay but the same symptoms continue.

I've got another relay specked for LEDs that I've put in and it works as it should mostly, occasionally it blinks quickly for no apparent reason.

I'm thinking there's a grounding issue somewhere but hoping someone might have had this and can point me to a quick fix.

    Thanks,
    Rick

    Thanks Chris,

I should have thought of that myself. It was a bit dusty and some grit in there. I cleaned it up with no joy. I went around and removed every indicator globe. Still ticking away... I'm thinking that maybe the hazard switch has gone bad. It's about a year old but it's an ebay special so maybe it's gone faulty on me.
