Navigation update on imported Discovery 4? D4??

    Hi all,

I know I am not the first to have this issue, but i cannot see a solution posted on any forums.

I have imported our Discovery 4 from the UK to Australia. Everything works fine except for the navigation which has Europe maps loaded. Land Rover tell me that the only solution they can offer me is to sell me a new entertainment unit at $4999 (). Ive see a bunch of other people hit with the same issue on other forums - does anyone here know the solution?

I have bought the Australia 22 maps from Landrover (that was before the new unit quote!), and the GPS obviously works fine as you can see the car changing direction on the map, i just need the maps to appear underneath! It cant be that complicated surely?

Really grateful for any advice on this as I'm drawing a blank, and being new to Perth could really do with this working!!

    Thanks

I rely on google maps most of the time and felt it better than my discovery GPS. May be I am wrong.

I use my Tom Tom on rental cars in the USA Just suction cup it onto the infotainment screen. I find it is more up to date than the OEM unit. My niece has an un-named Jappy car and the dealer wanted more for an update to the GPS than she could buy a Tom Tom for with lifetime updates included.

I will suggest looking on the disco3 UK forum as surely someone has had the same issue with changing from UK map to continental and vice versa.

I suspect, like all GPS items, your unit will be coded to the Northern Hemisphere. This is the same security/regional code types used in DVD et al. If I am correct then you will need to replace the unit. The antenna, software and firmware will be coded to look for signals within the European Zone

Or as others have said just spend a couple of hundred bucks and get a Garmin or the like with a built in traffic camera and save some money

    Verrrry Interesting

I will be very interested to see how this pans out, I bought a head unit from UK to replace mine which has decided to not select AM/FM radio but have not got around to installing it yet. I intended to do exactly what you are trying and have had a conversation with cambo a while ago about this, he seemed to think it should be OK. I have also searched DISCO3 and other forums and have not been able to find anything specific other than this, DISCO3.CO.UK - View topic - Swapping out Australian sat-nav for a UK version which is not much help. I did try to contact crimdog81 but to no avail. I have also considered getting an Aust spec head unit from a local wrecker, $750 PM me if you want further details. I presume that if you bought a local head unit you could still use your Aust 22 maps to update it.

I'd be surprised if you couldn't activate this through the Car Configuration File. You will need either an ID Tool or Nanocom Evo. I've just looked at my CCF:
    CCF Menu.PNGSetting Europe.PNGAus Nav.PNGAus Nav 2.PNG
Ignore as built percentages, it just tells you the percentage of cars built with that feature.

There may well be other settings you need to adjust.

The CCF editing function is a handy tool (but could get you into a world of pain if you stuff things up!)

I've disabled the three flash turn signalling function (just couldn't get used to it); shortened the interior light delay from 60 to 30 seconds, and; removed the leading 0 from the odometer display. Nothing earth shattering, but handy to do.
