    Replacement Compressor for Disco 3

    Following in from the following fault:-

    disco3 C1A20-64 (6C) Pressure increases too slow when filling reservoir - Algorithm based failure - signal plausibility failure

    it looks like the compressor is on the way out. It is my third and I suspect that I have had it for around 10 years. I have not checked but believe it is an Hitachi and either way I am looking to replace it with a second hand AMK. The air reservoir looks ok.

    Can anyone recommend a reliable source of second hand AMKs, eg from a wrecker? I am based in Goulburn. I note that one supplier of AMKs says that their warranty is not valid unless you replace all your air bags and struts!?

    the EAS has been pretty much ok with the exception of a faulty valve that was replaced some five years ago, but could have introduced sand into the system.

    If you are swapping Hitachi with an AMK you will need more than just the compressor.
    Have a look at the kit online so you can get an idea what other bits to take as well. The kit includes the cover so not sure if the Hitachi cover fits the AMK. You should get the software updated but I don’t think that is crucial as when I got my GAP IID Tool I discovered my AMK was running the Hitachi software for over 100 000ks and still going strong.

    compressor replacement

    Thanks Sean, sounds like a good next step would be to take the cover off. I had noticed that there was a kit that went with the AMK, but know nothing of the detail. I do have the IIDTool BT and did upgrade the compressor software, along with a lot of other stuff around three years ago.

    Hitachi refurb?

    Have you considered refurbing the Hitachi? Kits are available inluding upgrading the filter/dryer cap and dessicant.
    Air Suspension Repair Kit and Parts for Land Rover, Range Rover, 4x4 Air Seals - mail order available The dessicant breaks down to a powder that can bypass the filter and cause problems with the control actuators.

    Yep. Worked for me. Put the full kit through it and still going strong.

    Thanks for this suggestion. I had given it some consideration, but will look into it further now. The removal of a large number of weeds, including noxious ones has been taking up most of my attention.

    I’d encourage having a crack at servicing the compressor. Chances are the dessicant has broken down and the flow through the filters is now too low. Pretty cheap fix, really. Dead easy to do, too. Lots of resources online including YouTube showing you how.

    Just to put a spanner in the works, the refurb kit didn’t work for mine and I ended up going for the advanced factors AMK compressor after some wasted time and money. Unfortunately I’ve now given away the parts to another member otherwise I’d let you have them.

    Perhaps someone else has tried and failed but has the kit still?

    Compressor replacement

    The latest post reminds me that I have yet to check which compressor is fitted. Replacement of a leaky valve some 6 years ago should have seen the replacement of the dessicant, although the paperwork relevant paperwork is missing. My next job is to take a trailerload of Saffron Thistle to the local dump. The load represents some two weeks of pulling out a vary large outbreak by hand. After that I will be a freer to do other jobs.

    I emailed 4x4 airseals the company that sells the kits and compressors: (https://ebay.com.au/usr/4x4airseals) and they came back straight away:

    Thank you for question, your compressor can generally have 2 types of faults a pumping pressure fault or a venting fault or both , your garage should be able to tell you by means of diagnostic code reading of your vehicles suspension ecu memory which faults your vehicle as, a c1a20 code is a pumping problem and a c1a13 is venting problem , if your vehicles memory is displaying a c1a20 fault then we would recommend our master repair kit as per the kit picture in this message as each of those parts in the kit ! if they have failed in your own unit could cause this fault code ,their is usually a combination of a number of failing parts in your compressor that causes your dashboard light to illuminate to normal ride height which is covered in this kit , Please double check that you have the oem hitachi unit fitted on your vehicle ! if you remove the cover under the vehicle you will be able to view the air dryer cover with 2 pipes exiting out of it with a red and blue plastic rings around the pipes indicating that it is a hitachi .

    I still have pull the cover off mine, but I'm 99%sure its the Hitachi (OEM fitment) so I will be getting the kit that suits. Preventative maintensnce for me, have not had any EAS error codes to date (186,000km)
