Tyres for working

Well I may have just purchased a farm in NE Victoria which means that the 86’ finally gets to be put to work.
I have the original swb rims with bar tread tyres which are useless on wet grassy paddock hills. Can anyone suggest a suitable m/t Tyre option for these original rims? I am also looking out for a lwb series set of rims to give me a little more Tyre width as another option.

It really depend on how much you want to spend
IMO 235-255/85/R16 MT is the right size depending on your rim offset

I like BFG but at about $350 a corner fitted and balanced they are expensive
You can get the same size in no name brands for $200 but will they last?

Tyrepower got me a set of 235/85R16 Toyo OC MTs in for around $290 a corner.

Whilst I understand the price factor it is maybe worth taking tyres which are not heady duty (ply wise) otherwise the hard ride and limitations offroad will ruin the fun. m

Do your home work. A lot of tyres are unsuitable for original Series 1 steering components.

Correct. Series 1 steering arms are noticeably lighter than Series 2a on. I have had a Series 2 steering arm on the bottom of the relay fail - on 7.50 tyres. I would be reluctant to fit anything wider than 7" (180mm) and even this is wide for the standard 5" rims.

Not a Series One but I got a set of Evergreen ES89 AT Tyres 215-85 R16 for my Lightweight from Tyroola @ $75 each yes $75 each . Fit 5" rims no problem , And im super impressed with them on & off road . Steep / Wet grass no problem.

Do you need radials? If for farm use, go 700r16 GT Radial XGrip tyres. Old school crossplies, nice chunky tread for paddock use. Only $170 each.

Would 7.5 tyres from a perentie be ok? There is a set with good tread available locally
