    Turbo timers

    Hi Gurus
Just purchased a TDI 130 , it came with an ARB turbo timer fitted. Are they still legal in NSW?
    What's the rules these days?

As far as I know, you're not to leave a motor vehicle whilst the engine is still running. I think the timers are not required unless you've been running it very hard, then want to shut it down while it's red hot. For most, a rare occasion.

In most situations, the time required for the turbo to cool down is roughly equivalent to the time it takes the driver to apply the handbrake, undo the seatbelt and remove the sunglasses.

    This!

..... don't forget the time it takes for normal folks to slow down and come to a full stop.

And the oils we tend to use nowadays are a lot better than in years gone by, so there's less chance of oil cooking in the turbo.

Turbo timer, total waste of time . And bloody dangerous leaving a Defender parked relying on handbrake alone.

But infinitely safer than relying on a 75,76,78,79, 80, 100 Cruiser Hand Break

Hi Floydo, for many years, I use to manufacture and supply turbo timers but stopped producing them about 15 years ago because, as pointed out above, with the advances in oil technology and turbo construction, there was no longer a need for them.
Save wasting your fuel and leave it OFF or remove it all together.

    Install a EGT gauge.

On my 130 300TDi, if I have been giving the motor a hard time, I wait until the temp drops to 250 degrees before I shut off.
