    Rotary Gear Selector Stuck

Well after praising my MY14 D4 SC Disco to all..it's already let us down😐

Wife went shopping and when parked could not select P with the rotary selector which was jamned up in D. The D symbol was flashing and the green range light came on and off. Later a gearbox failure message came up on the display. Could not restart the engine cause we could not select P.

Well after several hours of searching the net and speaking with the indie down the road and trying eg hard reset...jumper leads etc we decided to tilt tray the car to the Hobart dealers. My first ever tilt tray experience!! Thanks LR. ..

I scanned the car with the Gap tool but nothing special came up cept the usual steering calibration error which has been there since buying the car. I did a fault clear anyway but no change.

Dealer had no ideas as to cause and the techs had left for the weekend so it will be Monday b 4 they can examine the car in detail.

Anyhow it looks like the rotary gremlins so often reported in the US with early Jags has struck in Hobart Town.

Could be a v expensive exercise as the rotary unit alone is well over a k to buy🙄

    Wish me luck!!

I'm not entirely sure about this but thought I'd read somewhere that there's lever underneath the coffee cup holder which can be pulled or turned to fix this for towing etc. Same area as when the damn useless EPB craps itself as mine did.... mumble mumble useless bloody thing.
    Good luck anyway.

Well I guess that’s one positive of having the “crappy” six speed - manual lever to select with. Sorry to hear mate but get used to it. It’s Land Rover life. It’s like the delinquent child - you want to walk away, but they’re family. You’ll keep giving them unrequited love.

    Hi All,

I have just had this happen to my 8 speed D4, im in the process of writing up a fix for it (well how I fixed mine) and also how to get it started and get home with the problem when it happens (all you need is a T20 torx driver & a touch of bravery).

You can buy second hand rotary units for AU$100 on ebay including shipping from the UK, but in my case I fixed it without expense.

    Cheers

    Please post your fix ASAP😎

I'm not going to lash the cash with Tilfords unless it's absolutely necessary!!

I'm actually itching to pull it apart...wished I'd sent it home now😐

Yes it does have the red lever to put it into neutral but that did not release the stuck rotary controller.

Maybe the last owner spilt latte down the console😆

Apparently 30 seconds holding the up gear shift paddle when ignition is on (not running) will raise the rotary dial. I haven’t tried it myself and it may not work on the opposite issue that you seem to have but testing that may be worth a try.

Na..tried that. In any case ours is stuck up.

We had three guys googling for an hour then the RACT man turned up and guess what..he Googled it too😅

So everything he found on the net we'd already tried..so he gave in to the tilt tray option real quick saying..all I know @ these cars is how to pull the red cord. .which is what he did. ie to get it into neutral to get it onto the truck...

Glad I got Roadside Assist...got my premium money back already☺

I'm still writing my instruction, if you need help now give me a call or send me a message (I've PM'ed my number) and I'll step you through my fix, although my problem did list a fault with the Gear selector shift lock solenoid, it wont fix it if you have a fault in the transmission itself.

The fix does involve pulling the TCS (Transmission Control Switch (aka the dial)) apart, so that will keep you happy. Ha Ha!

    Cheers
