Alternative Fuels...Biodiesel and Ethanol!

G’day mates,

For those interested in running a vehicle on alternative fuel, such as Biodiesel for diesels or Ethanol for petrol engines here’s my two cents worth.
I’ve been interested in alternative fuels, both biodiesel and Ethanol for quite a few years now and to help me sort out the bulldust from the fair-dinkum I have done many many hours of research on and offline.
I have also purchased information and plans on building a biodiesel reactor (this has nothing to do with atomic energy ) for brewing biodiesel and other information and plans to build a high output Reflux Still, not for distilling grog but for distiling Ethanol for fuel to be used in a 1992 Ford Fairlane Ghia!
Now then, lots of people laughed when I said I was going to run my car on Ethanol, they all reckoned Ethanol would blow-up the engine But folks... nothing is further from the truth!
Brazil has been running Ethanol fuelled cars for over thirty years, today Brazil is the world leader in Ethanol fuell technology and Brazil exports their knowledge to the USA, England and Europe...They also export Ethanol .

So diesel motors and petrol motors “can” be run, quite safely, on alternative fuels! i.e.
Biodiesel for diesels and Ethanol for petrol engines…with Ethanol, you need to fit a converter in a MPFI petrol engine, (it’s easy to fit and is not a permanent fixture) if the engine is an old carbie fed unit, then some work has to be done on the jets. There’s to much detail to publish here so I’ll just chuck in a bit of info' on biodiesel as my plans on distilling Ethanol for fuel have come unstuck because it’s illegal for people like you and me to distil Ethanol for any reason, guess the pollies think we would drink the Ethanol if we distil it ourselves! Guess the pollies don't know Ethanol from a Reflux Still is not suitable for drinking!

Okay so my little test was preformed with Biodiesel on a trip from Corio in Victoria, to Golden Beach which is about 89KM north of Brisbane on the Bruce highway.
After filling-up with diesel in West Wyalong, I was pretty low when I reached Moree in NSW so I needed to fill-up in Moree.
Wanting to test Biodiesel for some time, I decided…while I had the chance…to fill-up on Biodiesel! I filled-up at Volume Plus Servo in Balo Street on the North side of Moree, NSW. The servo is on the right hand side of the main drag, Balo Street, just before the bridge on the North side of town and there is a Shell servo opposite the Volume Plus Servo, so if you’re passing through Moree, save some money and help the environment by filling-up at Volume Plus Servo in Balo Street and running on Biodiesel, I noticed no difference in performance between the petrodiesel and the biodiesel! I got 66.19L heading up North and another 79.90L the next day on the way home pulling the van with my 1994 300 TDi Disco.
I’m in the process of building my own Biodiesel Reactor for brewing Biodiesel and I belong to the Melbourne branch of the Australian Biodiesel club. Our website is at:
