If the battery and starter motor are both in good condition, i would be suspecting a Loose wire or terminal. If you had a hydraulic lockup via fluids leaking into the cylinders you would know as it would smoke heavily after start up.

						Hi All,
I went to start my Defer the other day and it didn't crank over. I tried again and it started no problem. I think its done this before but was ages ago and isn't a regular occurence.
The first attempt sounded a bit like a compression lockup. The starter engaged and tried to crank but only got a part of one crank out. It was first thing in the morning/first start for the day so the engine was stone cold.
