2a Holden conversion owner joined 12/1/21

Feeling my way along a bit here.
My first Landie wasn't mine at all, it belonged to the government, although It was mine for a year.
I have owned a few since then.
I can't help but want to track it down, I don't know why! It used to suddenly decide to dart off in any direction it wanted. Non directional tires probably.
In spite of the peculiarities I am a dedicated Nutter.
My new toy is a similar model but not Military (wish it was for obvious reasons).

Can anybody help me identify year of manufacture? I'll give you a tip! pics were taken in 1970.

As purchased. Chassis # indicates 1961-1971.
I am soaking it all in at the moment.
No unpleasant surprises as yet.

Update:- A new starter motor (Holden), a little tinkering and motor fired up for the first time.
The conversion was in completed, it's nice and loud without a tail pipe. missing section between the headers and muffler to keep neighbors entertained! The chassis has been Galvanized, newly painted motor if that means anything, brakes work and are all new.
The wiring looks like the Three Stooges had a go at it.
I bought it from a diseased estate as a unfinished project so there are a lot of unknown facets .

The wiring harness is salvageable. the pic above depicts the tangled mess at the moment. Not sure how to wire the Bosch Alternator.
My mud map. I will use relays and fuses.

Welcome to AULRO,
your vehicle looks to me like it would be around 1966-67, but a couple of better picks in the engine bay of the radiator and radiator support panel, plus a couple of the interior bulkhead behind the gear stick etc would help.
It appears to have originally been fitted with a four cylinder engine (bent gear stick), but the bulkhead shape will confirm that for sure.
It looks to have been ex military (FFR) and so it should have some small alloy plates under the bonnet with details on them.

I have a 1962 series 2a SWB with Holden red 202 engine. I will be happy to post images of modifications or other bits requested to draw any picture comparison.

Howdy!
These wipers were introduced in late series 11A
and were continued with series 111. Nothing special.
There is a rats tail cable drive from the motor to the wipers concealed behind a removable sash on the inside of the bulkhead. I try to photo the cable.

On the Holden 202 motor you could not adjust the tappets where it is possible on the earlier 186, the non adjustable rockers were introduced in late 186s'. which mine is. Bummer.
It is possible to fit the adjustable type though.
You would need to do this if the cylinder head were shaved as wiper motor.jpgan example or a valve grind.

Yes originally been a four cylinder as it's got the front cross member modification.
Its a late 2A, been a "widelight" when purchased, but had that earlier model radiator support panel fitted, so it could be as late as a 1970-71 model.
Interesting how the engine installer, whoever that was, never bothered to get the radiator outlets relocated to suit the Holden engine, but just knocked
up that very interesting bottom hose/pipe configuration. It's the first one I have seen that passes under the motor, to the opposite side.
Looks to be a radiator from a six cylinder (2.6), as they have both outlets on the left hand side.

Re the hydraulic lifters on the 202.
If you skim some meat off the head and/or block, give it a valve grind, or replace the head gasket, you should always check the preload on each of the lifters,
before engine start up.

Yes, certainly is a long way around for that bottom hose - think of it as extra coolant capacity.

I have been away convalescing with a broken collarbone. It has been healing but not much progress made on the jalopy unfortunately.

Can anyone tell me about this chassis number? I can find no information what so ever.
